  ABOUT THE CLUB

The world of model railroading is a fascinating and fun place. Millions of people of all ages, races and economic backgrounds feel a camaraderie in watching and running these remembrances of earlier times. Children beam as colorful trains race through miniature worlds for their amusement. Imagination soars as eyes roam over the detailed landscapes, finding new and exciting scenes at every glance. Truly, model railroading brings us all together!

The non-profit GREATER BATON ROUGE MODEL RAILROADERS have been in existence for over two decades. Our mission is sharing the joy of trains with the community.

COMMUNITY COMMITMENT
The GREATER BATON ROUGE MODEL RAILROADERS has a long history of working within our community.

SCOUTING ACTIVITIES
The club has provided scouting with hands-on courses on railroading, assisting them with merit badges. Through these sessions, scouts are taught the skills needed to build a miniature railroad and the opportunity to learn the many facets of real railroading.

OPERATION LIFESAVER
Certified instructors are provided to clubs and events in order to teach the principles of railroad safety to everyone. Information on RR signals, watching for trains and how to judge distance and speed are covered. Additionally, free brochures are distributed for further reference.

ON-LOCATION DISPLAYS
The club has provided working model railroad displays for special events. In the past, corporate family weekends, town and parish festivals, school events, and adult living homes have all benefited from the special thrill of having a working miniature world available at their site to help enliven their events. Additionally, the club represents the community at train shows around the state and country, offering information about Baton Rouge's many recreational activities, including model railroading.

SPECIALTY WORKSHOPS
Our club members have the specialized skills to teach the art of model making, landscaping, and electrical technology to children, adolescents, and adults. Workshops have been given on everything from "kit-bashing" (making models by reworking and combining model kits) and creating realistic scenery (mountains, trees, rivers, lakes) to showing how electric motors work. We frequently respond to requests by teachers for classroom presentations.

STEAM UP & OPEN HOUSE
In the Spring and Fall, the club hosts open house event for the public.  These events feature demonstrations, fun events and more. Visitors from all over the region have enjoyed this tradition of the trains through the club's Open Houses, filled with railroad sounds and fun!
